Overview

The Plant Manager is a highly visible position reporting to the VP of Operations.  This is a “hands on” position that is responsible for directing and coordinating the daily operations of the manufacturing plant. This includes developing efficiency strategies to ensure the plant meets production goals and standards at minimal manufacturing costs. The Plant Manager works directly with department heads to coordinate purchasing, production and distribution operations. Duties include instituting policies and procedures, training supervisors and leads, meeting production schedules, giving performance reviews and motivating staff to meet production goals. The Plant Manager is also responsible for upholding a safe work environment. The department currently operates across 3 shifts and oversees approximately 80-100 people.

Responsibilities

  • People Management – hiring, coaching, training, and developing each member of the team by challenging each member to deliver attainment of production schedules; monitor performance and address performance or behavioral issues as they arise by taking corrective action and working with HR as necessary.
  • Remove waste and constraints from the production process to improve efficiencies and enhance productivity through Lean, 5-S, Six Sigma, etc.
  • Develop, monitor, analyze and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)/targets.
  • Evaluate Production related product holds and find the root cause/ solutions.
  • Manage spending budget, controlling spending in relation to changes in production volume.
  • Drive and/or support key initiatives as agreed upon with VP of Operations.
  • Continually support safety record improvement by addressing both physical safety issues and employee safety attitudes. Will be integral part of Safety Committee.
  • Working closely with the VP of Operations on a day to day basis providing immediate feedback on issues affecting Production performance, Production efficiencies and first pass Product Quality.
  • Leading as an example to the team by demonstrating a diplomatic approach to working with other departments.
  • Working closely with Production Scheduling to maximize efficient utilization of manpower, equipment, facilities while delivering on-time products at standards that will exceed our customers’ expectations.
  • Working closely with Quality Department to ensure complete compliance with established GMP, SQF and Customer Compliance standards.  Must be integral part of driving this process forward as the company grows.
  • Track competencies of subordinates through established Performance Management System and provide leadership and development as required to achieve objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations or Business-related field.
  • 5-10 years of progressive experience in a production environment/leadership roles with a manufacturing company preferably in the flavor or ingredient industry.
  • Strong leadership skills, independent thinking, strong organizational and planning abilities and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills are essential.
  • Previous experience/best practices implementing and using continuous improvement/lean tools such as; Six Sigma, 5-S, Lean Manufacturing, etc. to drive improvement
  • Excellent software aptitude (Microsoft office); experience with manufacturing systems such as ERP systems required, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 preferred.
