  • Overview

    Position Summary:   The Senior Buyer is responsible for all buying activities for their assigned categories and works collaboratively with all Synergy departments, suppliers and transportation providers to ensure a smooth flow of inbound raw materials for production.  Leads strategic sourcing activities for assigned categories.  This individual will have relevant experience in the consumer-packaged goods, food or food ingredient manufacturing industries. Buying categories at Synergy include: Alcohol, Propylene Glycol, Oils and similar liquid carriers, Maltodextrin, Dextrose, Starches & Gums and similar dry carriers, Essential Oils, Oleoresins, Sweeteners, Colors, Fruit Juices & Purees, Herbs, Spices & Seasonings, Vanilla, Food Chemicals.  The candidate will have either direct experience or working knowledge of managing categories in these areas.   Packaging experience is a plus but not a focus area of this role. 


    Responsibilities of the Senior Buyer:

    • Inventory management, strategic sourcing, planning and project management. Ensures a steady supply of raw materials to meet production needs.  Develops and leads strategic sourcing activities including strategy development, RFI/RFP execution, analysis, negotiations, supplier selection, contracting, implementation, ongoing category management and contractual compliance. 
    • Financial planning & cost management.  Owns financial and cost management metrics for assigned categories. Responsible for Purchase Price Variance (PPV) and meeting budget expectations, productivity targets.
    • Stakeholder support and alignment.  Creates and maintains collaborative relationships internally and externally.
    • Growth initiatives and brand value.  Supports key growth initiatives, supplier capabilities & capacity plans. 
    • Organizational leadership.  Collaborative Team Player viewed as a category expert by stakeholders.
    • Demonstrates corporate responsibility.  Adheres to Policies & Complies with Business Code of Conduct.

    1. Bachelor's Degree required, APICS and CPM certification preferred
    2. Demonstrated knowledge in Procurement Processes: Strategic Sourcing, Supplier Optimization, Negotiating, Contracting and Commodity Management in the food and beverage industry- minimum of 5+ years

    2. Business & Financial Acumen  
    3. Ability to travel as required, including visiting vendors/growers and other Synergy locations.  Estimated 10% Travel
