  • Overview

    The Lab Manager will be responsible for the site’s technical activities, with strategic input from R&D function heads (Synergy Wauconda).


    • Oversee bench level experiments and projects by establishing parameters on individual assignments to the scientific staff
    • Develop performance objectives for the team and stretch their current capabilities by mentoring a team of professional food scientists
    • Provide guidance in the distribution of workload and the potential re-appropriation of lab areas to ensure efficiency and success
    • Support the development of new ingredients and technologies
    • Represent the Hamilton site’s needs for basic research, applications formulations, process engineering, and sensory science
    • Influence ideation discussion to streamline the R&D process and use new technologies
    • Lead project teams, including longer-term endeavors
    • Proactive product development of food and beverage systems to demonstrate the efficacy of our products
    • Perform lab analysis, set up and operate lab equipment and welcome hands-on bench work
    • Research and develop methods to characterize our raw materials and finished products
    • Implement new methods, write SOP’s, and train the staff for routine performance
    • Participate in industry technical discussions to keep informed on upcoming technologies
    • Manage daily requirements of the lab (i.e. troubleshoot equipment, approve lab supplies, etc.)
    • Act as a technical resource for all departments on-site


    • Five to seven years food industry research experience and practical application of scientific methods
    • Master’s Degree in Food Science or similarly related technical field preferred. Bachelor’s degree required.
    • Ability to quantitatively review technical procedures and regulations. Capable of writing detailed reports.
    • Ability to effectively present information to groups and respond to questions from other managers.
    • Understanding of usage rates, ingredient interactions, preservatives, acidulants, stabilizers, etc.
    • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and able to manage multiple complex projects concurrently
    • Shows a high degree of proactive thinking and great organizational skills
    • Strong communication skills with a focus on building collaborative relationships
